SharkCache is a memory management utility for palmOne LifeDrives that lets your device run and load apps up to 600% faster! All you do is select the applications that you MUST always have at the ready in SharkCache and whenever you do a reset your applications will automatically be loaded (and locked in, if you so choose). The end result is much snappier loading times of all the apps you need, which makes your entire LifeDrive experience much more efficient! With SharkCache, you can have all the benefits of your device's 4 GB hard drive and the instantaneous loading times you've come to expect from the Palm OS! ------------------------------------------------- 2. INSTALLATION To install SharkCache, just double-click the SharkCache.prc file in this folder and HotSync your LifeDrive. The first time you run SharkCache, there may be a slight delay as all applications on your LifeDrive are enumerated (especially if you have many applications on your device). ------------------------------------------------- 3. USER GUIDE When you run SharkCache you are presented with a very simple user interface consisting of a list of applications installed on your LifeDrive and a popup list next to each allowing you to change the setting (more on that later). At the bottom of the screen you see an Enable/Disable toggle and a QuickCache button, and at the top there is a xx/4mb indicator of how much locked cache you've used. Let's start with the options you can set for each application: Nothing, LockCache, and TempCache: *Nothing: Nothing does, well, nothing! Choosing this option for an application is the same as not having SharkCache installed (the app is not touched on reset) *LockCache: The application is locked into cache on reset so that it can't come out. This produces the same effect as having an app in RAM on a normal Palm (like a Tungsten T3). You have up to 4 megabytes of memory in which to store LockCached apps, so it may not be ideal for very large applications. *TempCache: TempCache is a better choice in the case of very large applications. It's the same as LockCache except that it doesn't lock the app in RAM and therefore doesn't eat up any of LockCache's 4mb. The trade-off is that although the app is loaded at startup, it can be kicked out of RAM if the system sees fit. QuickCache: This little button at the bottom of the screen takes the currently selected application and puts it into tempcache. This feature is useful if you know in advance that you'll be using an application and want to ensure no lag times. This is merely a convenience feature and shouldn't be seen as a replacement for the normal Temp/LockCache selections. Enable/Disable: Enables and Disables SharkCache's functionality. If SharkCache is disabled, the QuickCache function will still work and all your settings will be saved, but no applications will be cached on reset. LockCache Mem Indicator (top right corner): A little display that shows how much of the 4mb LockCache allocation you've used.
